The Strait of Hormuz will be opened to shipping after the United States has concluded a favorable deal with Iran. This was announced on March 28 by US President Donald Trump during a cabinet meeting.

"Let's see if we can make a good deal, and they (Iran — Ed.) will make a good deal, and then the Strait of Hormuz will open," the head of state said.

At the same time, he noted the continuing uncertainty about the safety of the route, pointing out the alleged possible risks of mining the water area. Trump paid special attention to the technical equipment of the Iranian side, mentioning their availability of specialized vessels.

"They have 22 mining boats, they call them minzags. Think about it, who can have 22 minzags? It's a boat that drops mines. Who has 22 minzags? Except for people with malicious intentions," the president added.

The Politico newspaper reported on March 24 that the UK had proposed holding a summit on security issues related to the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the interlocutors, Britain intends to propose to the countries the creation of a coalition to open a safe route through the strait and ensure safe merchant shipping.

On March 25, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced permission for ships from friendly countries, including Russia and China, to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He added that Tehran sees no reason to allow ships from enemy states to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said on March 26 that the US government is working on the free passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz and wants to achieve this as soon as possible.
