Bloomberg reported on the development in Germany of a plan to harm US companies
The German authorities are developing a plan to damage American companies in Germany in case of a new round of trade war with the administration of US President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reported on March 26, citing sources.
The German government is seeking to be "better prepared" for the moment when Trump will again try to force America's "traditional allies" to obey, the media pointed out. According to the agency's sources, Berlin officials have begun drawing up "vulnerability maps in the US supply chains" to identify points where Germany and the European Union (EU) countries could exert pressure.
"The preliminary results of the study indicate ways to influence large American technology companies closely associated with the White House," the article says.
According to Tobias Gehrke, an expert on economic policy at the European Council on Foreign Relations, by rallying, the Europeans can prove to the United States that they are ready to stand up to them.
"If Europe can convincingly demonstrate that bullying tactics don't work, it may eventually weaken those forces in Washington that support Trump," Gerke explained.
According to Bloomberg, work in Berlin is at a relatively early stage. Government officials said the staff was collecting data on Europe's ties to the United States.
Gunnar Lindemann, a deputy from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said in an interview with Izvestia on March 25 that the White House was using the war with Iran to gain economic advantages. According to Lindemann, those close to President Trump, and possibly the head of the White House himself, may be involved in oil deals due to their connections and access to first-hand information.
