- The Russian Security Council reported on cyber attacks on critical infrastructure facilities in the Northwestern Federal District
In the Northwestern Federal District (NWFD), the number of particularly dangerous computer attacks against critical information infrastructure facilities remains at a high level. This was announced on March 26 by participants of a meeting of the interdepartmental commission of the Security Council of the Russian Federation on information security and the interdepartmental Council for information protection in the district.
"The increase in threats to information security in the Northwestern Federal District is facilitated by the expansion of the use of information space by intruders for illegal purposes," the press service of the Security Council of the Russian Federation said in a statement on its website.
It also emphasizes that, first of all, the identified problem is noticeable in the number of harmful computer attacks that are carried out by intruders against objects of the critical information infrastructure of the district. The perpetrators of illegal acts, as specified in the material, are aimed at unauthorized access to protected information. They are also interested in disrupting the functioning of public administration facilities, transport, science and education, healthcare, and others.
To counter these threats, the meeting developed recommendations to the state authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, which are part of the Northwestern Federal District, and interested organizations on taking additional measures in the field of information security.
"In particular, recommendations were made to increase the effectiveness of organizational and technical measures and improve staffing in this area," the text says.
The meeting addressed issues of increasing the security of critical information infrastructure facilities operating in the Northwestern Federal District.
On January 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for preventing unauthorized access to autonomous systems and the data they receive. Speaking about this, he pointed out the importance of supporting relevant scientific and engineering projects in the field of cybersecurity. A few days earlier, on January 10, Interior Ministry experts listed popular superstitions and false beliefs that prevent citizens from protecting themselves from cybercriminals. Experts urged Russians not to rely on intuition, but to follow security rules: do not provide codes and do not transfer money at the request of unknown persons.
