- Mashkov asked to be allowed to stage plays based on books without the permission of the heirs
People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Mashkov drew attention to the problem where heirs who have left the country refuse theaters the rights to stage works created in Russia and dedicated to it. The appeal was made on March 25 during a meeting of the Presidential Council for Culture.
"Refusals are received with the wording "I do not consider it correct to grant rights in the current situation." Although some heirs, we believe, may abuse their rights, which, according to the terms of the work, should have already passed into the public domain," Mashkov explained.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated the need to resolve the situation in which the heirs prohibit theaters from using the works of their ancestors for productions.
On the same day, Putin congratulated cultural figures on their professional holiday and held a cultural awards ceremony. He called the successes of Russian artists a contribution to the future of the country and noted that the work of cultural figures includes caring, love for the Motherland and efforts for the benefit of future generations.
