Moscow hears speculation about the preparation of an operation on the Iranian island of Kharq, but hopes that everything will be limited to words and threats. This was announced on March 25 by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova.

"We do not rule out any of the scenarios, including an even greater escalation. <...> We hear speculation about the preparation of some kind of ground operation on Kharq Island, but let's hope that it will not go beyond talk and threats," Zakharova said during a briefing.

She added that the results of the actions already carried out in the region by the United States and Israel are "evident."

The New York Times reported on March 25 that the US military command is exploring the possibility of using fighters from the 82nd Airborne Division to establish control over the Iranian island of Kharq, which is a key hub for the Islamic Republic's oil exports. The publication estimates that the American contingent near the island has grown to 7 thousand people.

Trump announced on March 23 that the US military would temporarily suspend strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure amid talks between Washington and Tehran. According to him, the United States and Iran have organized two days of fruitful negotiations to resolve the conflict.
