The sale of train tickets between Russia and Belarus has opened
The sale of tickets for suburban trains connecting Smolensk with the Belarusian cities of Vitebsk and Orsha has opened in Russia. This was announced on March 25 on the website of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
"The launch of new accessible cross—border routes will contribute to the further development of cultural and tourist ties between Russia and the Republic of Belarus," said Ivan Konev, Director General of the CPPC.
Tickets for the first flights in early April can be purchased at ticket offices at stations along the route, as well as online on the Russian Railways website. The duration of the trip from Smolensk to Vitebsk will be two hours, the ticket price is 435 rubles one way. The trip to Orsha will take 1 hour and 40 minutes, and the fare will cost 500 rubles.
Modern trains will run in both directions. Two—car diesel trains RA-3 will run on the Smolensk-Vitebsk route, and four—car electric trains EP3D will run on the Smolensk—Orsha route.
The schedule is synchronized for convenient connections to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Minsk, Brest and Mogilev. Preferential categories of citizens of Russia and Belarus will be able to equally enjoy discounts on travel along the entire train route.
In the future, it is planned to organize direct suburban communication along the routes Velikiye Luki — Polotsk, Velikiye Luki — Vitebsk, as well as launch the Bryansk—Gomel line.
In December 2025, the Belarusian side agreed with Russian Railways to launch a non-stop Lastochka night train between Minsk and Moscow. It was specified that cross-border communication will be opened between Smolensk and Vitebsk, Smolensk and Orsha. These routes will be subsidized and the fares will be comfortable for the citizens of the two countries.
