FT reported on Volkswagen's plans to produce air defense systems for Israel
The German carmaker Volkswagen is in talks with the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems about the conversion of one of its car factories for the production of air defense systems for Israel. This was reported on March 24 by The Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"The new production facility can be used for the Israeli Iron Dome," the article says.
According to the newspaper, the automaker plans to produce heavy trucks, launchers and electric generators for Israel, but they will not make the shells themselves at the plant. The German government is actively supporting this proposal, and production may begin in the next 12-18 months.
