Stavropol outskirts will be cleared of dead wood by April
The burning of dry vegetation began on the outskirts of Stavropol. The procedure is carried out annually in preparation for the fire season, the press service of the city administration reported on Tuesday, March 24.
"Part of the extensive comprehensive work to protect Stavropol from the fire element is to ensure proper sanitation of remote areas around the city perimeter," said Mayor Ivan Ulyanchenko.
Specialists will have to get rid of 400 hectares of dead wood, writes IA StavropolMedia. According to the mayor, the process has already started and will last until the first days of April.
Old vegetation will be burned out, in particular, in the area of Elagin Pond, on Staromaryevsky highway, Elbrus, Polevaya, Perspektivnaya streets and others.
Water haulage and earthmoving equipment are currently being checked, the network of fire hydrants is being expanded, and artificial reservoirs are being created in horticultural associations. The access roads to the farming co-op will also be put in order so that special equipment can pass through them.
Fire-fighting plowing will also be carried out on an area of more than 88 hectares, 150 km of mineralized protective strips in forests will be equipped and sanitary logging will be carried out. Patrols will be conducted in the 25 most fire-prone areas.
Earlier it was reported that video cameras will be installed in the forests of the Stavropol Territory to monitor fires. They will be able to detect fires at a distance of up to 10 km.
