- Autonomous "minibus" developed in the Russian Federation with AI will be tested in Altai
Navio technology company, which introduced an autonomous shuttle in Russia at the end of last year, will test it at the Manzherok resort in Altai. A scenario for the interaction of an automatic control system based on artificial intelligence technologies with other road users will be tested at the location. This is stated in the company's message, which was received by Izvestia on March 24.
Navio's concept of autonomous urban transport of the future provides for the delivery of passengers from point to point along specified routes. As explained in the company, Manzherok is characterized by difficult terrain with ascents and descents, as well as a variety of climatic conditions, which will allow testing an autonomous shuttle in various scenarios.
The tests will involve a shuttle with an interior for eight seats and ski equipment mounts. The vehicle is equipped with adaptive climate control and lighting, which change depending on the changing conditions outside. A bookling system has been implemented that allows you to adjust the floor level at stops.
It is stated that the autonomous car strictly adheres to traffic regulations, while maintaining a smooth and precise trajectory. The use of autonomous transport, as the shuttle developers pointed out, should improve road safety and solve a number of industry challenges, such as driver shortages, adapting travel intervals to passenger traffic, and flexible routing.
Last November, the Russian government adopted a decree extending the experimental legal regime (EPR), which allows unmanned trucks to drive on public roads, until 2028. Innovations have appeared in the EPR — the movement of "highly automated vehicles" (VATS) has become possible without the presence of a person in the cabin.
