Rosleskhoz announced the start of the wildfire season in April
The start of the fire season in Russia this year is expected in April, unlike last year, when it began in March. This was announced on March 24 by Evgeny Pisarevsky, head of the Forest Fire Protection Department of the Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz), at a conference at the TASS press center.
"We can expect a massive start of the fire season not in March, as last year. We are focusing on April," Pisarevsky said.
According to him, the first fires have already started in the Far East. Currently, there are four forest fires with an area of 65 hectares in Primorsky Krai and the Jewish Autonomous Region.
Pisarevsky added that last year Russia managed not to exceed the figure of 4.7 million hectares of forest fires, and this year the expected target was lowered to 4.3 million.
On March 19, the UssurMedia news agency, citing the press service of the legislative Assembly of Primorsky Krai, reported that more than 1.2 billion rubles were allocated in the region to fight forest fires in 2026. Since the beginning of this year, 131 fires have been recorded in the region on a total area exceeding 19 thousand hectares, of which 23 fires are on the lands of the forest fund.
The government of Primorsky Krai announced on March 23 that in the Khasansky district, since March 20, extinguishing of a large natural fire has continued, which has grown to 8 thousand hectares. A small fire in the vicinity of the village of Posyet quickly escalated into a large forest fire and got out of control.
