- The political scientist assessed the possible participation of Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the conflict with Iran.
Even a hint of the possible participation of Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the military campaign against Iran shows that the Middle East is entering a new phase: the Arab states are no longer ready to remain passive observers. This was stated on March 24 by political analyst Dmitry Brije to Izvestia.
"This is not just about rumors, but about signs that Riyadh and Abu Dhabi are considering more active involvement against the background of the Iranian attacks. Such actions are directly related to threats to national security, the economy and stability of the region for the next 5-10 years," the expert said.
Bridget noted that the possible military involvement of the Arab monarchies cannot be considered as an impulsive decision or an adventure. This is the response of states that have long relied on diplomatic restraint, but are faced with the fact that Iran is consistently raising the stakes and expanding its sphere of influence.
He added that for the Arab countries, not only the geopolitical situation is at stake, but also the protection of sovereignty, economic hubs, sea routes, energy facilities and the development model itself.
In addition, the orientalist clarified that a possible military campaign by Arab countries will be technological and limited, aimed at reducing Iran's capabilities, and Tehran's response is likely to be asymmetric — through proxy networks, cyber attacks and strikes on key targets.
"At the same time, demonstrating readiness for tougher actions may be a tool of pressure on Iran in the framework of the negotiation process, rather than a sign of immediate entry into war," the political scientist added.
He concluded that if Saudi Arabia and the UAE are ready for an active position, this is a signal to the entire region that the Arab world is no longer going to live under the constant threat of Iranian pressure and intends to defend its sovereignty and national interests.
On the same day, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that the Gulf states were approaching an open conflict against Iran. A significant shift in Riyadh's position is confirmed by the fact that the country's authorities have begun to provide their military infrastructure for the needs of the United States. According to sources in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Saudi Arabia has allowed the American contingent to use the King Fahd air base in the west of the country.
