A modern complex for processing municipal solid waste "Ostrovsky" has started operating in the Vyborgsky district of the Leningrad Region. This was announced on March 24 by the press service of the regional administration.

"The new facility in Vyborg district will process 600,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year. Of these, 360 thousand tons will be used for the production of fuel and industrial soil, 90 thousand tons of resources will be returned to circulation," the Leningrad Region administration said in a publication on the MAX messenger.

It is specified that 1.2 thousand jobs have been created at the complex, more than 95% of the technological equipment is of domestic production.

The opening ceremony was attended by Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of the Leningrad Region, and Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg.

"The Ostrovsky complex is just such a large-scale and significant project for the region. Waste from St. Petersburg will be accepted and processed here, and this will help to remove the burden from existing facilities in the Leningrad Region and switch to an environmentally friendly system," Drozdenko said.

The task of moving from accumulation to deep waste processing was set by the President of Russia and is reflected in the national project "Environmental well-being".

On March 13, the Russian Environmental Operator (REO) announced that Russia would launch cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of waste management. The REO experts held a presentation for their Uzbek colleagues, presented proposals for cooperation in the field of exchange of technological experience and investment cooperation, they concluded.
