Analysts have listed the most common cars in Russian taxi

AvtoVAZ products account for the largest number of taxi cars in Russia. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to data from the International Eurasian Taxi Forum (MEFT).

So, cars from AVTOVAZ account for 284 thousand taxi cars in Russia, which is almost a quarter (27.1%) of the total taxi fleet in the country. Kia brand is in second place (125.1 thousand units; 11.9%), Hyundai is quite a bit behind it (113.7 thousand units; 10.8%). Volkswagen and Toyota followed (76.6 thousand and 58.3 thousand units, respectively). Renault, Skoda, Chery, Haval and Geely have joined the top ten most common car brands in Russian taxis.

According to the MEFT, the number of taxi services registered in Russia in 2025 increased by 48%, to 2 thousand. The number of cars also increased by 48%, to 1.3 million, according to the MEFT data. By the end of 2025, 335.9 thousand passenger taxi carriers were registered in the Russian Federation. The number of self-employed carriers increased 2.8 times, to 230.9 thousand.

The Maxim taxi ordering service explained that such an increase is associated with the entry into force of the law on taxi localization on March 1, 2026: it was necessary to add all cars to a specially created registry in order to preserve the opportunity to work. The company called 1.5 million rubles the recoupable cost of a car for working in a taxi in the regions, but most models cost in the range of 2.5–4 million rubles. Representatives of the MEFT in their study admitted that up to 30% of taxi companies will leave the market, faced, in particular, with difficulties in updating cars.

On March 4, the Ministry of Industry and Trade published a list of domestically produced cars that fall under the approved parameters of the law on taxi localization. The ministry recalled that the list suggests the possibility of regular updates, taking into account models that will be produced in Russia under the SPIC with commitments to deepen localization.
