Moscow expresses the hope that Washington will have the prudence not to attack the Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant (NPP) as part of the ultimatum issued by the head of the White House, Donald Trump, who expressed a desire to restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on Monday, March 23, by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.

The American leader had said two days earlier that if the water area in question remained inaccessible to ships, his military would strike the Islamic Republic's power plants in 48 hours.

"I imagine that Bushehr will not be included in this list, because the consequences will be simply catastrophic for everyone. I think that the American leadership will have the prudence not to do this," RIA Novosti quoted Rudenko as saying.

Taking part in the international conference "Russia and India: Towards a New Agenda for Bilateral Relations," he stressed that the situation at the facility is calm now. In this context, the Russian side, as the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed, will demand from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) a clear position on the inadmissibility of attacks on the Bushehr NPP.

"We call for an end to this entire conflict, first of all, the aggression of the Americans and Israelis against Iran. Because what is happening in the Strait of Hormuz is the immediate consequences of this illegal action," he added.

Rudenko clarified that as soon as the war in the region is stopped, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz can also return to normal.

On March 22, American analyst Omar Baddar called the ultimatum to Tehran a threat that could turn into an energy crisis. In his opinion, everything is moving towards a catastrophe that needs to be prepared for. According to the analyst, at that time there were less than two days left before the onset of the "dark days". On the same day, retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis pointed out the futility of the threats of the president of his state against Iran. He suggested that such actions would only strengthen the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

On March 19, the head of the Rosatom state Corporation, Alexei Likhachev, said that the accident at the Bushehr nuclear power plant could be fraught with the spread of radiation to a large number of countries in the Middle East. According to him, none of the parties to the conflict will be able to avoid these consequences, therefore, leaders and parliamentarians must do everything to prevent strikes.
