In the near future, it is impossible to increase the life expectancy of most people to 120 years, since modern medicine does not know how to significantly slow down aging. This was announced on March 23 at the scientific conference "Blastim Day 2026" at the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) by Peter Lidsky, a Russian virologist and professor at the City University of Hong Kong.

"The biblical 120 years remains the most famous figure in the discussion of human longevity. The reality is much tougher: people over the age of 110 are extremely rare, and every confirmed case of super-longevity becomes the subject of in-depth research. Therefore, the conversation about the life limit of super—long-lived people today is not about mass experience, but about individual records and attempts to understand what exactly they say about the capabilities of the human body," he told TASS.

According to Lidsky, it is currently difficult to talk about the mass survival of people to 120 years, and the estimate of 150 years remains a hypothesis.

He noted that the growth of life expectancy has slowed down in recent decades, and classical medicine cannot radically slow down aging.

Breakthrough research in the biology of aging is needed to significantly increase longevity. At the same time, theoretically, the limit of human life may not exist, and the history of primate evolution shows that major shifts in longevity are possible in a relatively short time, the expert concluded.
