Bus carrying Manchester City fans caught fire on its way to London
In the UK, a bus carrying Manchester City football fans on their way to Wembley Stadium in London caught fire on the M6 highway. This was reported on March 22 by the Manchester Evening News (MEN) newspaper.
"The incident involved a bus carrying Manchester City fans on their way to Wembley. One of the eyewitnesses said that the passengers were evacuated and then left waiting on the grass curb," the publication says.
It was reported that the vehicle was significantly damaged and badly burned. Fire crews were involved on the spot.
Due to the accident, traffic on the highway was temporarily stopped. Traffic jams formed on the surrounding roads due to the large number of drivers who tried to avoid the fire. Against this background, fans called on the English Football League (EFL) to postpone the start of the match. According to fans, "thousands of people" were stuck on the motorway as a result of the accident.
The bus's owner, Ridleys Coaches, later issued an official statement in connection with the incident.
"We can confirm that there was an incident involving one of our buses on the southbound M6 toll motorway this morning." All passengers and the driver were safely evacuated, no one was injured," a company representative said.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire in the vehicle started suddenly.
"None of us had any idea what was going on. Our driver pulled us over to the side of the road, and we drove along it for five minutes until we finally stopped. After stopping, a large column of smoke came out of the engine, and we all got off the bus. After that, the engine continued to collapse and caught fire. Then the bus was gradually engulfed in flames," the passenger said.
On March 14, two tourist buses carrying schoolchildren collided in the Irschenberg area of Germany. As a result of the accident, one child suffered moderate injuries. He was taken to the hospital for examination as a precautionary measure. One of the drivers was also injured. Two rescue helicopters, as well as police and firefighters, arrived at the scene.
