Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on March 22 that energy and fuel infrastructure throughout the region would become a legitimate target in the event of attacks on facilities in the country.

"Immediately after attacks on our country's power plants and infrastructure, critical infrastructure facilities, as well as energy and fuel infrastructure throughout the region, will be considered legitimate targets," he was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Thus, the Iranian politician commented on the ultimatum of US President Donald Trump on the need to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

The ISNA news agency indicated in a Telegram channel that Iran had threatened to "plunge the Middle East into darkness" if the United States launched attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure. The headquarters of the republic's military command, Khatam al-Anbiya, reported that Tehran is also considering the possibility of attacking IT facilities and desalination plants in the region. As noted, such actions can lead to water supply disruptions and cause humanitarian consequences for the countries of the Persian Gulf.

On March 21, Trump said that if Iran did not open the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would strike at the power plants in 48 hours. The military will strike and destroy various power plants, starting with the largest one, he threatened.

At the same time, retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis noted on March 22 that the threats that the American leader is sending to Tehran will only strengthen the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and will not help unblock it.
