Thousands of Iranians celebrated Eid al-Adha amid U.S. and Israeli strikes
Thousands of Iranians celebrated the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, which marks the end of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, despite continued strikes from the United States and Israel. Footage of the celebration was provided to Izvestia on March 21 by Al Mayadeen TV channel.
"The festive prayer turned from a religious event into a national one. Iranians are demonstrating their unity and cohesion in the face of the war imposed on them," said Al Mayadeen correspondent Malik Abida.
Ismail Kousari, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament, called the killings committed by the United States and Israel evidence of their spiritual "bankruptcy" and weakness. According to him, this is an attempt to hide failures in the face of the resilience of the armed forces and the people.
"Even if our leader leaves us physically, his path and his principles will never disappear from our sight," he stressed.
In turn, one of the residents of Tehran noted that the people, rallying around the leadership, would not abandon their principles and would not give up.
The day before, the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Majtaba Khamenei, said that the United States and Israel were mistaken in assuming that they would succeed in overthrowing the regime in Iran. Prior to that, on March 16, political analyst Oleg Glazunov said that Iran would delay the war until Israel and the United States agreed to some kind of peace that would not damage the image of President Donald Trump.
The Guardian newspaper yesterday pointed to the transfer of the initiative in the conflict from the United States to Iran. It was noted that at the moment, Israeli-American plans are under threat due to the fact that Tehran has taken an "unexpected step" by blocking the Strait of Hormuz.
