The Russian government has submitted to the State Duma for ratification an intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation with the Republic of Nicaragua. The document was posted on the website of the Duma electronic database on March 20.

"To ratify the agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua on military cooperation, signed in Moscow on September 22, 2025," the statement reads.

The explanatory note clarifies that the final approval of the agreement will contribute to the development and strengthening of military cooperation between Russia and Nicaragua, determine the direction and forms of bilateral relations in the field of defense, and provide a legal basis for them.

Last November, the National Assembly of Nicaragua unanimously approved agreements on the establishment of economic and trade relations with the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Sevastopol. In addition, it is specified that the agreement with the government of Sevastopol provides for cooperation in the fields of education, technology, culture, housing, sports and tourism, which is called a solid step towards the development of twinning relations.

In August, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Waldrak Gaske told Izvestia that the country was ready to strengthen cooperation with the DPR, Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, in particular with regard to trade.
