Ronnie O'Sullivan sets historic Snooker record
On March 20, snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan updated the world record for the most points in a single game series. In the quarterfinals of the World Open tournament, he scored a 153-point break against Ryan Day.
The opponent got a foul and left the cue ball in a position where not a single red ball was visible. The referee called a "free ball". O'Sullivan was awarded the right to an additional ball for the price of red, after which he completely "cleared the table."
At the same time, the final score could have been 155 points, but in two positions the snooker player preferred the pink ball to the most expensive one, the black one. O'Sullivan's match against Day ended with a 5-0 victory.
The previous achievement of 148 points was held for more than 20 years. It was established by Scotsman Jamie Burnett.
On March 17, Colorado forward Nathan McKinnon set the National Hockey League (NHL) scoring record of the 21st century. He scored another goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins, becoming the sixth player in league history to score more than 110 points in four consecutive seasons.
