The food industry is one of the priorities in Moscow's industrial development strategy. This is reflected in the city's systematic support, in particular, in the development of infrastructure for the food industry. Today, this sector is showing steady growth. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin spoke about the current results and prospects for the development of food production in the capital in the MAX messenger.

According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, there are about 360 food industry enterprises operating in the capital today, employing about 65,000 people. The city produces almost the entire range of basic food products — dairy, meat and fish products, bakery and confectionery products, as well as baby and therapeutic food. The capital's enterprises occupy a significant share in Russian production: they account for every sixth ton of bakery products, every eighth ton of sausage products and every sixteenth ton of chocolate and confectionery. The largest category consists of confectioners — more than 110 factories specialize in the production of sweets, chocolate and other confectionery products. This is followed by bakeries and bakeries: over 100 enterprises are engaged in the production of bread, pastries, flour and products made from it. Meat processing enterprises complete the top three — there are more than 40 of them in the capital.

The Moscow food industry has been showing steady growth in recent years, Sobyanin explained. By the end of 2025, the turnover of the capital's producers amounted to 970.6 billion rubles, which is 12.3% higher than in 2024 in comparable prices.
