A new study has shown that people who exercise regularly in the early morning are significantly less likely to have coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or obesity. This was reported by Medical Xpress magazine on March 19.

According to the publication, the results obtained demonstrate only the presence of an associative relationship. At the moment, there is no evidence that it is the habit of exercising in the early hours that directly causes an improvement in medical markers.

"Any physical exercise is better than no exercise, but we tried to identify an additional factor related to exercise time. If you can exercise in the morning, it seems to be associated with better rates of cardiometabolic diseases," said Prem Patel, lead author of the study and a medical student at the Chan School of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts.

The authors of the study claim that exercising in the morning can help increase energy levels and choose healthier foods throughout the day. There is also a possibility that early exercise is simply more common among people who generally prioritize a healthy lifestyle.

The researchers emphasize that further scientific work is needed to determine the exact role of these factors and form sound exercise recommendations. The report "Training time and the relationship with cardiometabolic diseases" will be announced by the author this weekend.

Scientists analyzed the data of more than 14.4 thousand people. They took into account the objective reaction of the body: the researchers recorded periods of increased heart rate for 15 minutes in a row or more.

Those who exercised frequently in the morning were 31% less likely to develop coronary heart disease than those who practiced evening or daytime exercise. The risk of hypertension decreased by 18%, type 2 diabetes — by 30%, and obesity — by 35%.

The morning group was also 21% less likely to suffer from hyperlipidemia (elevated cholesterol levels). The lowest chances of developing coronary artery disease were recorded in those who exercised between 07:00 and 08:00.

At the same time, the scientists emphasize that the revealed relationship does not depend on the total amount of daily physical activity, age, gender, income, or sleep duration — morning workouts provided an advantage with equal introductory hours.

On January 31, Medical Xpress reported on the effectiveness of physical activity in nature. According to the study, outdoor sports contribute to improving mental health.
