More than 50 religious monuments to be restored in Moscow

Since 2011, over 150 churches have been restored in Moscow under city programs, including subsidies to religious organizations. In 2026, work will continue on more than 50 sites, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said in his channel in the MAX.

"We pay special attention to the preservation of religious monuments," stressed the head of the capital.

In 2025, the restoration of 14 religious cultural heritage sites was fully completed in Moscow, Sobyanin noted. Among the restored buildings, for example, the bell tower in the Kuskovo estate, the Church of the Assumption in Veshnyaki, the Transfiguration Cathedral of the Novospassky Monastery.

The southern house of the clergy of the Miusky Cemetery ensemble and towers No. 8 and No. 9, as well as the spinning wheels of the eastern and southern walls of the Donskoy Monastery, were also restored. In addition, specialists have restored the church and the house at the entrance to the Vagankovsky cemetery, the Church of the Assumption in Kazachya Sloboda.

Earlier, Sobyanin announced that the restoration of 144 architectural monuments in Moscow in 2025 had been completed. In total, 2,491 cultural heritage sites have been restored in the capital over the past 15 years.
