Slutsky called the veto of Hungary and Slovakia on Ukraine a blow to the EU.
Hungary and Slovakia have dealt a blow to the bureaucratic elite of the European Union (EU) and the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, by vetoing a new package of sanctions against Russia. This was announced on March 20 by the head of the LDPR party Leonid Slutsky.
"In fact, this is a direct blow to the bureaucratic elite of Brussels and the dictatorial habits of von der Leyen, who categorically claimed that Kiev would receive the money one way or another," Slutsky wrote on the Telegram channel.
According to him, the leaders of Hungary and Slovakia could not be "crushed", as they put the national interests and well-being of the population above the political decisions of the EU, which are made in favor of Kiev. He noted that the rest of Europe was at a disadvantage because of these decisions.
"European Russophobes have driven themselves into a dead end, making a losing bet on Russia's strategic defeat on the Ukrainian proxy beachhead. Now the situation is close to the Hollywood scenario, where "the tail is wagging the dog." Bloody in reality and ruinous for ordinary Europeans," said the head of the Liberal Democratic Party.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on March 19 that he had not succumbed to blackmail at the EU summit. He commented on the refusal of Hungary and Slovakia to support the EU's €90 billion military financing project for Ukraine for 2026-2027.
Orban said yesterday that Hungary would not support a single EU decision, which could potentially be useful for Ukraine, as long as this country blocks oil supplies. He added that there is no other way out, just like Budapest's willingness to compromise in this situation.
