Russia has delivered 29 tons of humanitarian aid to the flood-stricken Republic of Mozambique. This was announced on Thursday, March 19, by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.
"A special aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations delivered humanitarian aid to the Republic of Mozambique. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the instructions of the Government of the country and the order of the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov, about 29 tons of humanitarian cargo were brought from Moscow," the ministry said in a message on the MAX messenger.
It is specified that food, basic necessities, as well as tents and blankets intended for the flood-affected population were sent to the affected state. The cargo arrived in Mozambique aboard the Ministry's IL-76 aircraft.
Tom Fletcher, Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, said on January 19 that over half a million people had been affected by flooding in Mozambique. According to him, the water filled roads there and damaged medical facilities. On January 23, representatives of the Russian Embassy in the republic called the situation in the region tense. According to the diplomatic mission, 122 people died in the country, and more than 720 thousand were injured.
