The veterinarian recommended that Muscovites start treating pets from ticks.
Residents of Moscow can already start protecting their pets from ticks. This was announced on March 19 by Alina Fedorova, a veterinary specialist at the animal disease control station of the SAO and NWAO.
"The first treatment of pets from ticks can already begin now, that is, from the middle of March. Because ticks wake up after hibernation. They wake up almost immediately as the temperature becomes steadily above zero, when small thawed areas appear, where the snow begins to fall. Therefore, at this time it is time to protect pets and start processing," Fedorova told RIA Novosti.
The veterinarian noted that the peak of ticks usually occurs in May and June, but due to the warm March weather, risks are already emerging. She explained that it is necessary to treat all pets, since even if the cat does not go outside, ticks and fleas can be brought into the house by a dog.
On March 18, Andrey Pozdnyakov, an infectious disease specialist at Invitro, PhD, reported that with the onset of the summer season, the risk of infectious diseases associated with insect bites, contaminated water and soil, as well as hygiene violations increases. According to him, one of the main risks in spring and summer remains ticks, whose activity begins already at temperatures above +6 degrees.
