The Investigative Department for the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory has opened a criminal case into the death of a 54-year-old woman who was hit by an ice block from the roof of an apartment building. This was reported on March 17 in the Telegram channel of the department.

"A criminal case has been opened into the death of a 54-year—old woman as a result of a block of ice falling from the roof of an apartment building (paragraph "b" of part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," the report says.

According to preliminary information, on March 17, during the daytime, a piece of ice came off and fell from the roof of apartment building No. 38, which hit a bus stop standing under the roof. At the time of the incident, there was a woman under the roof of the bus stop. She died on the spot from her injuries.

The investigators are carrying out the necessary actions to establish all the circumstances of the incident. Special attention will be paid to evaluating the work of officials responsible for the winter maintenance of residential buildings.

State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev said on February 26 that Russians who suffered from ice have the right to receive monetary compensation and can collect medical treatment costs, legal fees and compensation for moral damage. According to him, based on modern judicial practice, victims of a fall on a slippery road manage to recover up to 300-350 thousand rubles.
