Marshmallows can be a good alternative to cakes and chocolate during weight loss if eaten in small quantities. This opinion was expressed on March 16 by "Gazeta.Ru" Acting Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the State University of Education, biologist Irina Lyalina.

"The low calorie content — about 250-300 kcal per 100 grams — makes marshmallows a less high-calorie dessert compared to chocolate or cakes. And the pectin content from fruits helps to improve digestion and normalize stool. Marshmallows practically do not contain fats, so they can be useful when limiting their consumption," Lyalina explained.

The biologist added that it is necessary to choose marshmallows without artificial additives, using berries and fruits.

In addition, the expert did not recommend eating marshmallows for people with diabetes and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Nutritionist Roman Pristansky warned on March 16 about the dangers of reducing the amount of fat during a diet. The expert explained that fats are the most energy-intensive substrate of the body and perform an important structural function: they help to "patch" blood vessels, participate in the production of hormones and provide the body with energy.
