European countries are preparing for a protracted conflict on the continent and are confident that the conflict in Ukraine will not end within a year. This was announced on March 16 by Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto following a meeting of the Council of the European Union (EU) in Brussels.

"Today, Western European colleagues have already talked about the need to start preparing Ukraine for the next military winter. This means that Brussels expects that we will definitely spend the whole of this year in conditions of [conflict]," Szijjarto said during a conversation with reporters, a recording of which was published on the European Commission's website.

Szijjarto accused the leadership of the EU, Germany and Ukraine of trying to involve Europe. According to him, there is still "military fanaticism" in Brussels, which threatens the future of Europe.

On the same day, Szijjarto assured that Hungary would not support the 20th package of sanctions against Russia and would not approve a loan of €90 billion to Ukraine until Kiev launches the Druzhba pipeline. In addition, he said that as long as Viktor Orban remains the Hungarian prime minister, Ukraine will not become a member of the EU, nor will it receive Hungarian financial assistance or support in the form of soldiers.
