In Russia, there are restrictions on the methods and volumes of fishing, for violation of which fines and criminal cases are threatened. Ilya Rusyaev, a lawyer and founder of the Rusyaev Club business community, told Izvestia on March 16.

"The list of prohibited fishing methods in Russia is much longer than many people think. At the federal level, the law on amateur fishing prohibits fishing using explosives and chemicals, electric current, nets (with narrow exceptions), spearfishing in places of mass recreation, with scuba gear and with electronic detection devices. In the basin rules, the list is expanded even more and includes bagging, jamming, night lighting, riverbed barriers, self—propelled hook gear and traps," he noted.

The lawyer clarified that in Russia, catching walleye, pike, bream, rapeseed and catfish can be fined, since spawning restrictions are often imposed on them. Special attention is also paid to sterlet, sturgeon, grayling, salmon and whitefish, which are under special bans.

According to him, for violating fishing rules, citizens face a fine of 2 thousand to 5 thousand rubles with possible confiscation of fishing gear. For catching red book species (for example, sterlet or sturgeon), fines can reach 5 thousand rubles for citizens and up to 1 million rubles for legal entities. For catching particularly valuable species such as beluga, Kaluga, Russian sturgeon or sturgeon, a criminal penalty of up to 4 years in prison is provided, and using the Internet for such purposes can lead to a term of up to 6 years.

"There are no universal figures for the whole country in terms of size and number, the law refers to the basin rules. But the scheme is the same everywhere. Minimum sizes are set (walleye 40 cm, bream 25 cm, catfish 90 cm, pike 32 cm), daily catch rates (often no more than 5 kg or one specimen if it is heavier), and during the spawning period only one fishing rod from the shore and no more than two hooks are allowed," he concluded.

On March 16, the Moscow District Court declared illegal the placement of advertisements for the sale of fishing fishing kits on several websites. Thus, the court ruled that access to the designated sites not only contributes to the commission of offenses under Articles 8.37 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of hunting rules") and Article 258 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal hunting"), but also violates public interests.
