India has increased its oil purchases from Russia. This was announced on March 16 by the country's Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Rajesh Agarwal.

"We buy Russian oil. The volume of purchases from Russia has increased," the Indian agency ANI reports the minister's words on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Agarwal clarified that this happened against the background of interruptions in energy supplies from the Middle East due to the military operation of the United States and Israel against Iran.

The British Unheard portal reported on March 9 that the US and Israeli military operation contributed to Russia's return to the global oil market. It is clarified that high oil prices also forced the American side to lift sanctions on Russian oil.

The U.S. Treasury Department said that as part of the changes in the sanctions policy, the United States granted an exception for the sale of Russian oil and petroleum products shipped before March 12. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained that the withdrawal of oil sales from Russia from US sanctions is aimed at reducing the cost of energy resources on world markets.
