The service life of the oldest aircraft carrier of the US Navy, the USS Nimitz, has been extended by 10 months. This was reported on March 14 by the USNI News portal, citing a statement from the Pentagon.

"According to the contract announced on Friday, the oldest aircraft carrier of the US Navy will remain in the fleet for 10 months longer than expected," the publication says.

It is specified that the US Navy has signed a contract with HII Newport News Shipbuilding for $ 96 million. This money will be used for the supply of materials and preliminary planning.

Bloomberg reported on January 15 that the cost of the first new Trump-class battleship for the US Navy could cost $22 billion. The final cost of the project will depend on many factors, including the decision on the displacement, crew composition and armament of the ship. The minimum estimated value is $15.1 billion.
