Naina Yeltsina was born in the Orenburg region and worked as a civil engineer for more than 25 years, after which she became the first lady of Russia. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

Early years and name change

Naina Yeltsina, nee Girina, was born on March 14, 1932 in the village of Titovka, Orenburg region. She grew up in a large peasant family of Old Believers. At birth, the girl was named Anastasia, but in the family circle she was called Naya from an early age.

At the age of 25, she decided to officially change her name in the documents. This was due to the fact that she could not get used to the official address Anastasia Iosifovna. In 1955, she completed her studies at the Construction Faculty of the Ural Polytechnic Institute in Sverdlovsk, qualifying as a civil engineer.

Professional activity and marriage

Naina Yeltsina has been working in her specialty for more than a quarter of a century. During this time, she worked her way up from an ordinary engineer to a group leader at the Vodokanalproekt Institute. The professional environment became her meeting place with her future husband Boris Yeltsin, whom she met while studying at the institute.

The couple formalized their relationship in 1956. The couple were married for more than fifty years, until the death of Boris Yeltsin in 2007. Two daughters, Elena and Tatiana, were born in this family.

Public position

During the period when Boris Yeltsin served as president of Russia from 1991 to 1999, his wife preferred not to participate in the public political life of the country. She deliberately tried to keep a low profile, not interfering in government affairs and her husband's official agenda.

The main focus of her activity in the status of first lady was the social sphere. Naina Yeltsina was actively involved in charity work, providing support to hospitals, orphanages and shelters for the elderly. At the same time, she preferred not to advertise her help and not to attract the attention of the general public to this work.
