The dog handler gave advice on how to combat the cowardice of a dog
Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told how to deal with the cowardice of a dog.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, March 13, the specialist noted that fearful behavior in dogs is more often associated not with whimsy, but with problems of socialization, trauma, chronic stress or features of the nervous system. He stressed that punishing a pet for fear is useless and cruel, because without the help of the owner, the animal will practically not be able to cope with the problem.
According to the expert, it is important to first understand what exactly a dog is afraid of — loud noises, going outside or visiting a veterinarian. At the initial stage, it is better to avoid such triggers as much as possible and monitor the pet's reaction in order to reduce the overall level of anxiety.
The specialist also advised to create a safe and predictable environment for the animal.: the dog should have a shelter where he can go, and the daily routine should remain stable. It is important for the owner to remain calm, as shouting and punishments only increase fear.
The expert noted that it is useful to form positive associations in a pet — to encourage even small successes with treats and gradually, very carefully, to accustom it to frightening situations. At the same time, you need to act in stages and without sudden stress.
In severe cases, the specialist added, the help of a veterinarian may be required. If an animal has severe anxiety, sleep and appetite disorders, or self-harm, sedatives are sometimes prescribed to reduce stress levels and begin behavior correction.
Earlier on March 13, Golubev, in an interview with RT, warned about the dangers for dogs during spring walks. In particular, according to him, spring thaws and puddles pose a great danger to dogs due to the accumulation of bacteria, chemicals and the activation of dog hunters.
In February, Golubev noted that grooming is becoming a necessary hygiene measure for dogs, including cleaning their ears, eyes, and caring for their claws and paranasal glands. 360.ru .
At the same time, the specialist warned about the dangers of folk remedies in the treatment of dogs. According to him, one of the common misconceptions is the use of vegetable oil for constipation. This method can create additional stress on the pancreas and increase the risk of pancreatitis.
Earlier, Vladimir Golubev told the Moscow city news agency that a dog during puberty can become aggressive and react worse to commands due to a hormonal surge. According to him, the number of walks with a dog should be increased, but the pet should be kept on a leash and always control the situation when meeting other animals.
