Iran's Ambassador to Turkey denied Tehran's involvement in missile incidents
Iran has nothing to do with the downed missile incidents in Turkish airspace and insists on conducting a joint investigation. This was announced on March 13 by the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic in Ankara, Mohammad Hassan Habibollazade.
The diplomat stressed that Tehran fully respects Turkey's national sovereignty, and the Iranian security agencies and the Foreign Ministry have already officially denied reports of shelling. To resolve the situation, the Iranian side proposed to create a technical group that would study the facts in detail. According to the ambassador, "third parties" may be behind the provocations, which aim to undermine friendly and fraternal relations between the two states.
Commenting on the general military situation in the region, Habibollazade noted that Iran has never acted as an aggressor and is only defending itself legally. He recalled that the Islamic Republic conducted honest negotiations on the nuclear dossier, but the process was disrupted by external interference.
"The United States has betrayed diplomacy," the diplomat stressed in an interview with the Yeni Safak newspaper.
He added that the attacks began precisely at the moment when the discussion of technical issues mediated by the countries of the region, including Turkey, reached a crucial stage.
Earlier in the day, the Turkish Anadolu agency reported the interception of two Iranian ballistic missiles in Turkey. The agency clarifies that earlier two ballistic missiles that were heading towards Turkey were intercepted by air defense systems.
On March 9, NATO air defense systems shot down a ballistic missile in Turkish airspace fired from Iranian territory. After neutralization, the rocket fragments landed in an uninhabited area near Gaziantep. There were no casualties as a result of the incident.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on March 7 that Ankara warns Iran against the recurrence of missile attacks on Turkish territory. The diplomat also stated that Turkey stands for an early settlement of the conflict over Iran.
