Over the past day, 217 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 21 people were killed and 265 injured. 18 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 13 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

18 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which two people were killed, and 26 more road users, including one child, required medical attention. 10 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 73 accidents, 36 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 37 outside their area of operation, three pedestrians were killed, and 73 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 13 underage pedestrians, seven of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas. There were also 24 accidents involving minors, in which 24 young road users, including 10 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

In addition, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions. Thus, in the Altai Territory, due to snow, blizzard, and strong gusty winds, the movement of buses and trucks on the federal highway A-322 Barnaul - Rubtsovsk — border with the Republic of Kazakhstan from 27 to 298 km and 17 other regional highways has been temporarily restricted for more than a day.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate drew the attention of motorists that during the beginning of the change of seasons, one should be extremely careful when driving a vehicle: refrain from sudden rash maneuvers and realignments, exclude entering the lane of oncoming traffic even in the places allowed for this, observe the interval and distance, and choose the speed limit taking into account weather conditions.

When planning long-distance trips over the coming weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that drivers and passengers always monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from traffic closures or restrictions. In case of a negative forecast, it is recommended to postpone the trip until the weather and traffic conditions improve, and in urban conditions, use public transport services.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations and pay more attention on the roads of settlements and cities, especially when passing intersections and pedestrian crossings. After stopping in front of an adjustable pedestrian crosswalk, you should not rush to start moving even when the traffic light is clear. First, it is important to make sure that the crossing is completely free of foot traffic. The behavior of children and elderly pedestrians on the road is often unpredictable, so at any moment you need to be ready to respond adequately to a sudden change in the traffic situation, the department noted.

Parents of underage road users were reminded of the need to be more attentive to their children, try to ensure maximum safety for them and, if possible, personally accompany them to educational or sports activities on weekends. It is necessary to use retroreflective elements on their clothes to improve visibility on the road in the morning and evening.

"It is important to have an explanatory conversation with children about the rules of safe passage through the roadway, emphasizing the need to exclude telephone conversations, listening to music in headphones, chatting on the go in Internet chats and other distracting factors for pedestrians. Remember that even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children often leads to injury or death of young road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department of Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

On this day, it was reported that the introduction of devices for detecting too loud vehicles could begin in Moscow in 2027. As Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for Transport and Industry, explained, a change in legislation is necessary to put such devices into operation.
