A Crimean resident was sentenced to 18 years in prison for spying for Kiev.
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea sentenced to 18 years in prison a 32-year-old resident of Yalta, who provided Ukraine with information about the deployment of Russian military equipment in Sevastopol. This was announced on March 13 by the press service of the regional prosecutor's office.
"The Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Crimea has supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 32-year-old resident of Yalta. He was found guilty of high treason," the agency said in a Telegram channel message.
It also notes that in 2023, a previously convicted man colluded with a representative of the main directorate of Ukrainian intelligence, whom he assured of his readiness to assist in carrying out activities against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. After that, the curator instructed the Russian to collect information about the deployment of weapons and military equipment in the region, which he did by recording objects on video.
"The court <...> sentenced the man to 18 years and 20 days in prison to serve his sentence in a high—security penal colony and further restriction of liberty for 1 year and 10 months," the department concluded.
On March 4, the press service of the FSB's Public Relations Center reported on the detention of another Crimean resident who was also involved in transmitting information to Ukraine. As it was emphasized, he collected data not only on military equipment, but also on the deployment of Russian military personnel. Two criminal cases were initiated against this person in accordance with Part 2 of Article 205.2 ("Public calls to carry out terrorist activities, public justification or propaganda of terrorism") and Article 275 ("High treason in the form of espionage") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
