Iran has stated the need to coordinate sea routes through Hormuz.
Vessels that want to use the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate their passage with the Iranian navy, Ismail Bagai, an official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said on March 12. His words in his Telegram channel are quoted by the Mehr news agency.
"Iran is the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz, and its insecurity is not in our interests, but this insecurity is being imposed by the United States and Israel. This may affect shipping, but Iran does not want this strait to become unsafe, and ships should coordinate their actions with the Iranian Navy for safety," said a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Bagai also added that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is of vital importance to Iran. He stated that Iran, having the longest coastline in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, has always invested in protecting this strategically important waterway.
The newly elected supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, said on March 12 that the Strait of Hormuz should remain closed from the United States and Israel.
On the same day, US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said on CNBC that the United States was not ready to escort ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
