Zakharova announced the detention of a Russian citizen on a tanker seized by Belgium.

The Belgian Foreign Ministry has informed the Russian Embassy that one of the crew members of the detained tanker is a Russian citizen. This was announced on March 12 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"On March 6, the Belgian Foreign Ministry officially notified the Russian Embassy in Brussels that one of the crew members of the specified vessel is a Russian citizen," Zakharova said at a briefing.

She noted that the embassy is trying to establish contact with the detained Russian citizen in order to ensure that his rights and interests are respected.

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken said on March 1 that the country's armed forces, with the support of France, had seized a tanker allegedly linked to the shadow fleet. According to him, the intercepted vessel was sent to the port of Zeebrugge.
