Cast-iron clock pole to be installed in Lipetsk on Frunze Street
A cast-iron pillar with a clock and a backlight will appear in the historical place of Lipetsk. The architectural form will be placed at the expense of local patrons, GOROD48 reported on Tuesday, March 10.
The art object will be installed in the center of the square on Frunze Street, 8. The height of the pillar will be 3.5 meters, weight — 2.5 tons. The size of the watch itself is 0.6×0.6 meters.
The public space should be put in order by the autumn of 2026. The work will be carried out within the framework of the program "Creating a comfortable urban environment". Residents of Lipetsk voted for the landscaping project two years earlier.
According to one of the patrons, Evdokia Bychkova, the dials will be placed on three sides of the pillar. The construction will be decorated with the city's coats of arms of 1781, 1968 and 1996. Negotiations are also underway to apply an ornament of the Lipetsk Land regional tourism brand to the pillar.
According to the idea of the initiators, the watch should become a point of attraction for citizens and visitors of the city. Frunze Street was chosen for the installation of the facility as one of the few where historical buildings have been preserved.
The square itself was laid out back in 1987 according to the project of architect Sergey Soshnikov. It is located next to an apartment building that was built by builders from Lipetsk's twin city of Kotbus. A 70 cm high bronze sculpture of an embracing couple was planned in the center of the square, but the city refused to install it for architectural reasons.
Earlier it was reported that Lipetsk will allocate 163.7 million rubles for the implementation of the municipal program "Formation of a modern urban environment." The work will be carried out at ten locations.
