Comprehensive care, including moisturizing, photoprotection, proper sleep and proper nutrition, helps restore the skin after winter. Irina Kondrakhina, head of the Consultative and Diagnostic Center of the State Scientific Center for Dermatovenerology and Cosmetology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, dermatovenerologist, MD, told Izvestia on March 12.

"After winter, the skin often becomes drier, more sensitive and duller. This is not only due to the cold. During the heating season, indoor humidity can decrease to 20-30%, while the skin—friendly indicator is about 40-60%. In such conditions, transepidermal moisture loss increases, the skin loses its protective properties faster and looks dehydrated," she explained.

According to the expert, special attention should be paid to intensive skin hydration in the spring. Products with hyaluronic acid help to retain moisture, and components that restore the lipid barrier reduce its loss and increase the skin's resistance to external factors.

In addition, protection from ultraviolet radiation plays an important role, added Kondrakhina. Up to 80% of the signs of premature aging are related to sun exposure, and even in cloudy weather, a significant portion of the ultraviolet rays reach the skin surface. Thus, the use of sunscreens with an SPF of at least 30 helps reduce the risk of photo-aging and pigmentation.

The specialist also noted the importance of proper sleep. At night, the processes of cell repair and collagen synthesis are activated, while lack of sleep increases the level of cortisol, a stress hormone that can increase inflammatory reactions and worsen skin condition.

According to Kondrakhina, walking in the fresh air and moderate physical activity have a positive effect on the condition of the skin. They help to improve microcirculation, supply oxygen to tissues and accelerate metabolic processes.

"Nutrition also affects the appearance. The absence of fast food and an excess of fast carbohydrates reduces the risk of inflammatory elements. It is known that high—glycemic foods can enhance the processes of glycation, which damages collagen, which affects skin elasticity and the risk of inflammatory elements on the skin of the face, back and chest," she concluded.

A dermatologist, cosmetologist, and co-owner of a network of clinics, Dr. Zarema Omarova, said on February 27 that low-quality jewelry can cause allergic reactions and skin irritations, especially if it contains alloys such as nickel, cobalt, or chromium. According to the expert, allergic reactions are most often caused not by "pure" metals, but by alloys that are used in the manufacture of jewelry to increase strength and reduce cost.
