Alisa Dvoeglazova and Peter Gumennik won the singles competition in the final of the Russian Grand Prix, which was held in Chelyabinsk. Both athletes were considered favorites on the eve of the competition and were in the lead after the short programs. However, the victories turned out to be very different and difficult. Another important moment occurred in pair skating: at the end of the season, Alexandra Boikova and Dmitry Kozlovsky finally took away the status of the country's best pair from long—time rivals Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov.

Women's single skating: a lot of mistakes

After the Milan Olympics, many, including figure skating experts, said that women's single skating had regressed in the world — the programs in their technical content resemble productions from a decade ago, and only a few jump. An example was given by Russian girls who perform quadruple jumps and triple axels many times more often.

Indeed, Russian figure skaters are trying to make the most of what they are capable of: half of the 12 participants in the master tournament went to the most difficult jumps. In the free program, however, they turned out with varying success.

According to the rentals, it seemed that Kamilla Nelyubova was the closest to the integrity of the program and the unity of the technical and artistic parts — although the triple axel turned out to be inclined, but the skater drove it cleanly. And she was good at everything else, but in the end she only took third place. Moreover, she was ahead of Sofia Muravyova, who again became the fourth, by only two hundredths of a point. The judges saw two half—turns in Camille's jumps - in the same trixel and triple flip, where there was also an obscure rib.

Maybe the other skaters skated much better? There would be no questions if that were the case. But two of Eteri Tutberidze's students took the first two places. Alisa Dvoeglazova, as in the short program, won in the free skate and, of course, became the first in terms of the total. No one was surprised by this scenario. However, if you look at the rental and take a closer look at the protocols, then there is a feeling of some injustice.

It was not the first time that Dvoeglazova made a mistake immediately at the start of the program — she made a double lutz. For this, by her own admission, she will have to wash the toilets — this was the agreement with her mother. Alice then left the quadruple sheepskin coat, but very uncertainly, but the score is in the positive zone. But she didn't attach another sheepskin coat to this square. Therefore, when I fell from the next similar quad, I was left without a cascade.

Further, according to the judges' reports, the rental turned out to be almost perfect, but during the performance it was clear that the exits from some jumps turned out to be uncertain. This was also noted by Anna Shcherbakova, who commented on the competition.

Daria Sadkova, who became the second, started the free skate with a perfect quadruple sheepskin coat. Usually, when a skater gets the first difficult element, she gets ready for the rest of the program. However, this did not work out that way — only three jumping elements were in the positive zone, the rest were performed with errors. And even the rotations with the tracks were affected. Despite this, Dasha is third in the free and second in total.

Men's skating: they broke up in hundredths

The men were all very scared by the first warm-up rentals: only Alexander Melnikov managed without falls. Andrey Mozalev and Gleb Lutfullin received four deduxens at once, Matvey Vetlugin, Artur Danielyan — two each, Makar Ignatov — one. The second six reassured the audience — the skaters mostly skated cleanly, so the gaps here from the first participants are large, but the athletes dispersed among themselves by literally hundredths.

Evgeny Semenenko (286.97 points — the total score), Nikolay Ugozhaev (286.47) and Mark Kondratyuk (286.03) were divided by them — and any of them could have been higher if someone had a slightly more loyal or stricter assessment from at least one of the judges. Everyone had minimal errors — Semenenko made a mistake on the quadruple Rittberger and Salchow, Kondratyuk — on the salchow and the cascade of triple lutz and sheepskin coat, Ugozhaev did not ride too confidently from the quadruple lutz. At the same time, Mark was deservedly the best in terms of components out of the three, but this was not enough for the podium.

It was hard for Humennik psychologically — he admitted it himself after the rental. And if you just think logically, it was obvious: after all, the Olympic Games are stressful. But Peter did not just stand up, but once again was noted for his impeccable tactical thinking. For example, I twisted only a triple lutz instead of a quadruple, because I felt in the air that the jump would not be perfect. Then I figured I could do another triple like that — not all skaters are able to think like that during the rental. The judges found a few short jumps, but Humennik won anyway (303.16). And very deservedly, confirming that it was not for nothing that the Russian Figure Skating Federation put on it.

"Petya really had a terrible ordeal this year before and during the Olympic Games," Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova told Izvestia. — He was taken to the Games as a man without a name or a tribe, not from our side. They put the first number and said, "Ride." And after that, he came and restored the program with his coach, Veronika Daineko, who should definitely be congratulated!

According to her, Peter had a great victory over himself.:

— It's incredible to ride with such skill. He rides like he doesn't even allow the thought that he might not do something. I wish him good health, and long life to us so that we can still watch it.

Pair skating: progress in dancing

Before the Russian championship, Mishina and Gallyamov went on a series of six wins and led 15:8 in the confrontation, then this season was marked by the victories of the pair from Moscow. Russian Boikov Jumping Championship/Kozlovsky lost only nominally — having a victory in his pocket, they went to the quadruple elimination and were left behind. They won the two main tournaments, the championship and the Grand Prix final.

However, the quality of the victory in Chelyabinsk leaves questions. The winning pair fell off the quadruple throw (but respect for the attempt), and the loser did not even perform a triple, and Mishina hurt herself normally, and also jumped with a step-out. It is symptomatic that even with such mistakes, no other couple could catch up with them — Chikmareva/Yanchenkov is four points away from silver, the others lost another 20+ points.

With such a set, it is doubtful that any Russian duo would challenge the Japanese Miura./Kihare at the Olympics, even with their mistakes. In terms of points, even taking into account our inflation, the Japanese are higher, and silver medalists Anastasia Metelkina/ Luka Berulava are in the same numbers. It is clear that it is incorrect to compare our rentals with theirs, and that there were four motivating years of isolation. But many people really remember Dmitry Kozlovsky's harsh comment on the Olympics.

The main intrigue in dancing on the eve of the next season is the entry into the status of the first number from Kaganovskaya/Nekrasova Street. About everyone's scores in rhythm dancing were so inadequate that Olympic champion Guillaume Cizeron shuddered at home, but the main thing in the tournament is not the points, but the overall bar and relative gaps.

From this point of view, Vasilisa and Maxim spent the 2025/26 season luxuriously. Judge for yourself: at the Russian championship before the New Year 2025, they were 13 points behind the undisputed leaders, Alexandra Stepanova./Ivan Bukin. Now it's 4.5. And that's in 14 months. At the same rate, the gap from the competitors behind is growing, and the total points have increased by 14 points — exactly one per month. It's a pity that Kaganovskaya/Nekrasov did not go to the 2026 Olympics, as they would have been more likely to pass the neutral filter, and in general it would have been useful, given who the federation is betting on.

But in general, the dance tournament turned out to be very strong — all the couples in the last warm-up gave out strong performances, as if they had accumulated all the energy for the season. Mironova won the bronze medal./Ustenko, and for them, reaching the position of "the best among the rest" is also a kind of victory. Moreover, they will receive a neutral status if anything happens.
