The governments of European countries are annoyed by the actions of the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, who has assumed more powers than allowed since the beginning of the conflict in Iran. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on March 9, citing sources.

According to the sources, the role of coordinating the EU's foreign policy lies with the head of the European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, "whose task is to keep in touch with the capitals and form a common position — even if this is often a slow and painstaking process."

"The problem is that the President of the European Commission puts forward his ideas and somehow binds the European Union to obligations without first consulting with the countries. She says things that are not within her authority," a senior EU diplomat said on condition of anonymity.
