The Iranian Council of Experts has decided on a candidate for the post of Supreme leader of the Islamic Republic. This was announced on March 8 by Board member Mohammad-Mehdi Mirbageri.

"A strong and complete opinion was presented, which is the opinion of the majority," the Mehr news agency quoted him as saying on the Telegram channel.

He also noted that all the members of the council had made great efforts during these days to determine the candidate.

On March 5, US President Donald Trump said that the United States does not want Iran to be led by a leader like the murdered Ali Khamenei. The New York Times reported earlier in the day that Iran had postponed the appointment of a new supreme leader after Khamenei's death for security reasons. Mohsen Kumi, a member of the Presidium of the Council of Experts on the Leadership of Iran, noted on March 5 that the process of selecting a new supreme leader of the country is at the final stage.

The son of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, Mojataba Khamenei, who was killed as a result of a military operation by the United States and Israel, has become the main candidate for his father's post. In turn, Trump declared the candidacy of Khamenei's son for the post of leader of Iran unacceptable.
