Russian tourists in Sri Lanka may be evicted from their hotels. This was reported on March 7 by TASS with reference to the appeal of tourists.

"There are cases of a lack of guaranteed extension of accommodation and meals, which puts people at risk of eviction and exacerbates the humanitarian side of the situation," the appeal says.

In addition, many tourists have expired health insurance, which creates the risk of lack of coverage for diseases. Some citizens are also at risk of exceeding the allowed period of stay. There are children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses among the stranded.

It is clarified that the tourists called on the authorities to create a coordination center for the registration and removal of Russians from the island, as well as to organize special flights.

In turn, Mikhail Rogov, a spokesman for the Russian Embassy, noted that the diplomatic mission is currently dealing with the issue of stranded Russians in Sri Lanka. According to him, negotiations are underway with air carriers on the fulfillment of obligations and the possibility of transportation on previously purchased tickets through the Persian Gulf countries.

He added that a request was also sent to the Federal Air Transport Agency to arrange an additional flight for those who are ready to purchase new tickets.

On March 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to ensure the export of Russian tourists from the Middle East due to the aggravation of the situation in the region. The head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, reported that since February 28, the airspace of 10 states has been closed, and more than 250 flights connected with Russia have been canceled. At the time of the outbreak of the conflict, there were 23.5 thousand organized tourists from the Russian Federation in the region, more than 90% of them in the UAE.
