The Federation Council warned about a new scheme of email fraud
Fraudsters began sending letters to Russians on behalf of the Federal Tax Service (FTS) with a QR code to pay for the alleged debt. This was announced by Artem Sheikin, Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy at the Federation Council, in an interview with TASS.
The scheme begins with an e-mail, designed in an official style and sent ostensibly from the tax service. The text talks about unpaid taxes or arrears and suggests a quick resolution of the issue. The QR code for payment is attached to the letter and the number of the "FTS employee" is indicated, who is supposedly ready to advise. However, according to the senator, this code leads to a phishing resource that disguises itself as a tax website.
"There is no panic, no threats — just a statement of fact and a proposal to quickly resolve the issue. Below in the letter, the person sees a QR code for payment and the contact number of an employee of the Federal Tax Service," explained Sheikin.
As the Newspaper writes.Ru", on the website, citizens are asked to enter their passport, bank card and phone number, which, after entering, will immediately be in the possession of intruders. If a person calls the number of the "FTS employee" indicated in the letter, he will be answered by an operator who will convince the citizen of the authenticity of the debt and hurry to repay the debt, Sheikin added.
On the eve of International Women's Day, Dmitry Morev, Director of Information security at RuStore, told Izvestia about the fraud schemes that are traditional on this holiday. One of the most common schemes before March 8 remains "flower delivery", when attackers call the victim, posing as a courier, and ask him to dictate the SMS code.
