Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are facing an acute shortage of soldiers on the line of combat contact in the area of the special military operation (SVO). On March 7, senior sergeant Dmitry Semera, a captured Ukrainian militant and former assistant to the grenade launcher unit of the 5th border guard detachment of the 5th outpost, told about this.

"They sent [me] to the line of combat contact due to a desperate shortage of personnel. I got into position," TASS quoted him as saying.

The man clarifies that he took over the post with 500 rounds of ammunition and several bags of food. There was only one colleague waiting for him, with whom he was later captured at the moment when they fell asleep. Now Semera is finally convinced of his unwillingness to continue joining the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"I don't see the point <...>. I just don't understand why," he stated.

Representatives of the Russian security forces said the day before that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began to transfer its experienced signallers to the assault units due to a shortage of manpower. As noted, these operations are carried out on a massive scale and mainly concern elderly people.
