Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), joked on March 7 about pleas for Russian oil, gas and fertilizers from European Union (EU) politicians, including Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, and Kaya Kallas, head of the European Diplomacy.

"Leaked video: Ursula, Kaya and a typical Russophobic EU bureaucrat begging for Russian oil, gas and fertilizers," Dmitriev wrote on the social network X.

To the publication, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund attached an animation with the characters of the cartoon "Despicable Me" depicting pitying faces.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted on the same day that the start of the military operation in the Middle East had led to risks of energy collapse for the countries of Western and Central Europe. At the same time, the diplomat noted that the EU itself imposed a ban on energy imports from Russia. In the context of the escalation in the Middle East, the question arises as to where Europe intends to get its fuel from.
