In addition to Russian, Tatar, Chechen and Ukrainian languages are included in the list of the most widely spoken languages in Russia. Olga Kazakevich, head of the Laboratory for Research and Preservation of Small Languages at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told about this on March 7.
"This is primarily the Tatar language (approximately 4.3 million native speakers). Chechen (1.3 million), Ukrainian (more than 1.1 million), Bashkir (1.1 million), and Chuvash (more than one million) languages have more than one million native speakers," the linguist told RIA Novosti.
