The Moscow City Court upheld the verdict of comedian Ostanin
The Moscow City Court has upheld the verdict of comedian Artemy Ostanin (listed as a terrorist and extremist by Rosfinmonitoring) in the case of violating the right to freedom of conscience and religion and inciting hatred or enmity. This was announced on March 6 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
In early February, the Meshchansky court of the capital sentenced him to five years and nine months in a penal colony with a fine of 300 thousand rubles.
The criminal case was sent to court at the end of December 2025. Before that, in June, Rosfinmonitoring added Ostanin to the register of terrorists and extremists. The defense repeatedly petitioned to change the measure of restraint from detention to house arrest, citing the state of health, but these requests were rejected by the court.
On December 27 last year, the Meshchanskaya interdistrict prosecutor's office approved the indictment against Ostanin. His detention while trying to leave Russia became known on March 18.
Later, on January 12, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow extended the term of detention of the stand-up comedian, he will stay in jail until June 25. In addition, his bank accounts were blocked as part of the criminal prosecution.
